City of London Police has received an award for becoming one of the first UK police forces to ensure that every member of staff has completed race equality training to an acceptable standard.

Over the last year more than 1000 police officers and staff have completed an online training package which covers the general and specific duties of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000.

The course demanded a pass mark of 80%, which was achieved by every member of the Force. On completion of the -*test*-('") individuals were given a series of key learning points, and the explanations to any questions they got wrong.

Following the award 37 City Police officers and staff will be receiving merit certificates as they managed to go one better and achieve a perfect score of 100%.

The Force chose the online training package in order to make the course both accessible to everyone in City of London Police and cost-effective.

Assistant Commissioner Frank Armstrong who accepted the award from Robin Field Smith of HMIC, on behalf of the Force, said:

"This is a great achievement for everyone at City of London Police. A clear understanding and appreciation of the issues incorporated in the Race Relations Act is a valuable tool for every police officer and member of staff in the Force.

"We are always working towards building better relationships with business and residential community. An area as diverse as the City can only be policed effectively if we fully understand the needs of the people we are policing.

"As a Force we constantly seek to bring diversity to the heart of everything we do and are keen to encourage people from more all ethnic backgrounds to work for City of London Police."
