Devon & Cornwall Constabulary is set to hold a memorial rugby match in honour of a police officer who died on a Force charity cycle ride.
Barnstaple-based Detective Inspector Tony Mead died of a heart condition in September last year, aged 37, whilst raising money for Cancer Research. He left wife Alison and then four-month-old son Finley.
Rugby-loving Tony played the sport at a high level as a winger, winning the County Championship at Twickenham with Cornwall, which was his highlight playing the game. He also represented the Force, British Police and Redruth.
Tony’s colleagues have decided to hold a rugby match, annually, in his honour. A Devon police team will take on a Cornwall police side on March 31st at King George’s Field, Bideford Rugby Club. Kick-off 6.30pm.
An extended invitation is given to all rugby enthusiasts who may wish to attend and support the event. All proceeds will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.
