€700,000 seized at Dublin Airport

Customs officers at Dublin Airport have seized €700,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The money was discovered after officers intercepted a 26-year-old Irish man as he waited to board a flight to Brussels.

The money was found in a bag which had been checked in.

Customs believe the money was being exported to finance the importation of large a consignment of drugs by a west Dublin gang.

what happens to the cash now under the Irish system? Presumably its evidence at the moment but if goes to trial and he's found guilty what will happen to it?
