While reading The Dublin Fire Brigade History of the brigade, the fires and the emergencys by Tom Geraghty and Trevor Whitehead I found a very interseting fact.

Some of the first fire brigades in the UK were run by the police. Can you imagine Fire Fighter OBP climbing a ladder with his turn out gear and ba on carrying a fully charged hose lol. There is a upiside though, plenty of fun in a clothes dryer and as much volley ball as he could want

No more fancy cars for obp it would be a dennis fire appliance . No more sigs or g36's it would be jaws of life and dry powder extingushers, I could go on forever

Ah but DonkeyW would have been fine, they had hosses those days

As well as St. Johns and Red Cross etc, the police and local councils also operated ambulances prior to 1948.

It would just NEVER happen

Here the FB was run by parishes, police and insurace companys. City council started the brigade who then started the ambo service

Well now you ask, having all that time off to do another job for cash in hand would be nice.
Sleeping whilst you're meant to be working would be nice.
Playing volleyball and working out in the gym whilst you're supposed to be working would be nice.
So yes I think it would be nice.
