when out on duty how many of you like wearing your NATO jumper or do you prefer the fleece? I have found my SJA jumper very itchy and can't wait to get my fleecei have put some pictures below (taken from St John Supplies)

Nato jumpers you get used to them, we've got rid of them now for fleeces, which i haven't worn yet but cant comment, nato jumpers are grand in winter though

We don't get Nato's and I don't wear my fleece, my vest is usually enough to keep me warm, if not then it's my high vis or firearms coat.

We withdrew the jumper in July '05. Have to say, mine is still like new because I never wore it. So itchy and sweaty. When that was in service I actually used to wear the removal lining of our "patrol jacket", under my hi-viz.

We now have the fleece and I have to say it's the most usable piece of uniform I've ever had. Ours are a slim fit and can zip into the bomber jacket as liner, or can be worn on their own. Plus, whilst the fleece material is not commercially branded, it is actually on par with Gore Windstopper or Polartec Windbloc, meaning ot keeps the wind out too.

Of course "slim fit" also means that the more portly, senior man shows the bottom 3 buttons of the shirt and makes the fleece look like a belly top, but you can't cater for everyone!

I know what you're thinking lads... "how did the Gardai actually manage to get something right???... probably by accident?

We only get issued the NATO jumper but me being the rebel I am, have aquired a fleece and wear that under my Duty vest! Far less itchy and restricting than the jumpers!!

Avon and Somerset still issue the Nato jumpers as well as fleeces, but it's upto the officers to which one they wear.
Have tried a Nato jumper on on Work Experience, I found them quite itchy as well.

We get issued a jumper, why I don't know.

We get issued a warm weather jacket, why I don't know.

No that's not true, there are some bloomin cold spots in Qld that they are worn.

Also where I work, I mean it drops to 12-15 degrees which I guess is cold for us wink.gif

Send your unwanted winter clothing down south as I will be happy to wear it in winter when it can and does drop below zero in a lot of our area. We are issued thermal underwear and jumpers and jackets, but you can never have too many. ph34r.gif

Fleeces for us!

Robo them patrol jackets, jaysus they were much, good old fashioned hi vis one of them and silver "reflective" belt and radio in the holder with strap round your neck and one radio between two.

We've come along way, with tetra radios and hi-vis for all (even though there are 6 billion different varieties)

Havn't worn the new uniform, although I like the new hat badge
