Yesterday on the late shift I was called to one of our many parks to assist HEMS that had been called out to a serious P.I. accident where a lad ran into the road and basically head butted a passing car. This is quite a regular call as they often land the air ambulance in our parks and one in particular, being next door to the hospital is the official landing site. Any way I was chatting to the crew as you do and the pilot mentioned that last week as he was coming into land at the park near the hospital he stopped and maintained a hover because of some teenagers nearby and then without warning one of the lads who was holding a full length broom handle deliberately threw it upwards towards the rotor blades. The consequences don't bare thinking about, the playground is no more than 50 -75 feet from the LZ and being the holidays was busy with young kids etc. Fortunately the pilot gained some high and avoided a serious / disastrous incident. I had to accept what I was being told and didn't doubt the pilot but just couldn't believe that someone could be so reckless. With this in mind I went to that park, knowing that HEMS would be landing and an eyewitness stopped and told me the exact same story of the youth and the broom handle. I've seen many stupid and criminal things done over the years but this gets first prize!!!!!
It is an extremely dangerous thing to be doing

And if Plod's law has anything to do with it, it's usually the innocent victim(s) who come off worse. Some people have serious mental issues and this is a prime example of such people. As if we haven't got enough issues with air travel at the moment without these plonkers.
And don't youo know that if he brought the chopper down, the crew would be killed and he'd wonder off with a small graze under his left ear!
Something like that if someone was caught they should recieve at least five years but you know they would end up getting a caution.
Kid deserves a good swift kick with a steel toe cap boot and a stretch in young offenders. But no doubt he comes from a broken home didn't get enough hugs blah blah blah so hell get a trip to disney land instead.
Kids today are idiots theyed throw stuff at anything, helicopters, fire engines, ambulances, police cars, each other. Anything if I did that when I was young I get a couple of nice hard punches off the local sergeant
Commish you know me I only have one brus with tar on it so everyone gets the same treatment, guilty until proven inniocent
