Fire crews hurt as engines crash

A firefighter has broken his arm and six colleagues have minor injuries after two appliances collided on the way to a 999 call.

Severe traffic congestion was caused by the crash on the main Marylebone Road in central London, at its junction with Gloucester Place.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said no other vehicles were involved in the accident, on Sunday morning.

The crews of both machines were taken to hospital and later released.

The main Marylebone Road was closed in both directions for many hours after the accident, causing long tailbacks which impacted on traffic travelling to the nearby Notting Hill carnival.

One of the appliances was a standard fire engine, the other a turntable ladder machine.

Fire Brigade spokesman Chris Daley said the appliances had been travelling in opposite directions towards the location of the 999 call in Marylebone when they collided.

The road was fully re-open early on Sunday afternoon and an investigation has been launched.

Sounds like an odd collision!!

Anyone have any further information on this please??

From what i've heard from other sources: Soho's Turntable Ladder (TL) hit the nearside of Westimster's Pump Ladder (PL). The ladder of the TL hit the roof of the PL and smashed the blue lights off causing the ladder of the PL to be knocked off. (Sorry if that sounds confusing!)
The call, which both appliances were attending, turned out to be a false call.
Seven firefighters were taken to hospital, the worst injury being a broken arm. Other injuries were less serious.
I hope the people who made the hoax call get caught, and I wish the firefighters a speedy recovery.

Saw the photo in the sun yesterday, it looked quite nasty!

I have to agree with you on that one OBP!!!

I have also seen the photo in The Sun and really cannot see how it happened. Im sure it will all come out in the wash though!!!

Me thinks someone is going to get their hand slapped for this one!!
