Well lads, another one of my rambling wonderments... What firearms does your force issue. In the UK it'll be ARV's / SO19 etc.

Here the standard sidearm for armed officers is the Sig P226 9mm DAO which is slowly replacing the S&W .38 Sp Revolver. The emergency Response Unit have a multitude of stuff such as the 9mm P226 D/S Action, Uzi, HK33 I believe, Benelli M3 12ga. etc

I've noticed on my last few visits to the UK that the venerable MP5 is fizzlingout in favour of the G36. At least so it would seem at the airports. Also (OBP perhaps), is the solid stock version of the MP5 a thing of the past. The MET used to have them but they only seem to have the collapsable stock A5 version now?? Am I right?

Anyway, lets hear from ya...

I use a Glock 17 and a collapsible stock MP5 but we have got more solid than collapsible.

After just hearing that we had started purchasing H&K MP7's a few days ago, they've already hot the streets. They are being deployed along with the tasers.

Mate I use a Glock 22. Over here all coppers are issued with a firearm and carry it on duty. We also have the smaller version the Glock 17 for plain clothes officers.

The Glock 22 & 17 are the exact same size. The 22 being .40 S&W and the 17 being 9x19mm.

The Glock 23 (.40) and 19 (9mm) are the compact versions of these guns.

Is it the G23 that plain clothes officers carry?

If a G17's standard Mag holds 17. Why doesn't the G19's hold 19?

Come to think of it does the 22 and 23 hold 22 & 23 respectively?

Why do they call the .40S&W .40 when it is 10mm? Why not call it a 10mm short to save confusion with the 10mm cartridge

Why is a 38 special called a .38 when it's not?
It's actually closer to .36" being that it is actually .356 in diameter and the Magnum Round version is .357?

The G17 was the 1st model they produced. After that, I cannot answer you. The G19 holds 15+1 rounds, so logic would suggest G15 would have been a more fitting title... As for .40 S&W, I presume S&W came up with that caliber / cartridge length... Than again maybe the Americans just like the imperial system. Don't really know. I'll Google it some time & I've no doubt will find answers.
