Does anyone still hear the term 'firemen' instead of 'firefighters'?

Thanks, from James.

There was a massive fire on the mountain near where I live. Older people called them firemen, Younger people called them firefighters.

I certainly would never refer to myself or any of the crew as Firemen!!

Its not so much to do with Political Correctness just what im used to calling us and being called! There are lots of female firefighters now so I dont think it would go down too well!

As 01mterr1 said, it would usually be an elderly person who may come out with the term firemen but simply because thats what they are used to saying!

We've been told, in College, for our assignment work that we must not use the terms: firemen/fireman/firefighters.
They are to be known as Fire Officers.

Political Correctness getting out of hand... dry.gif

Isn't the term 'fire officers' for ranks other than firefighter though?

If they get called called fire officers it makes them sound more important and then they will be after more pay. blink.gif

My thoughts exactly

Well I cannot see the problem if you use 'Firefighter'!!!

I agree with James that Fire Officer would suggest a ranking officer!!
