You've got to feel sorry for this chap, he gets put away but according to the home secretary aren't only dangerous and persistant offenders being locked up at the moment
A 29-year-old Leicestershire police officer has been convicted at Leicester Crown Court of perverting the course of justice.
PC Simon James Grosvenor was yesterday sentenced to eight months imprisonment.
The officer was charged with the offence after talking to two members of a jury during a sexual assault trial on March 8 last year. He denied trying to sway the jurors.
Speaking after the verdict, Leicestershire Constabulary's Deputy Chief Constable David Lindley said:
"It is the role of the police service - and of every man and woman who serves as a police officer - to uphold the law. Leicestershire Constabulary takes this responsibility extremely seriously.
"When concerns were reported about the conduct of the officer, staff from our Professional Standards Department carried out a very thorough and professional investigation. The evidence gathered was then put before the Crown Prosecution Service.
"The Crown Prosecution Service felt there was evidence which should be put before a jury. The jury has today reached its considered decision.
"PC Grosvenor let himself down, he let his colleagues down and - most importantly - he let down the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland he had pledged to serve. I am very disappointed that he acted in the way he did but his action in no way reflects the professionalism and integrity of the overwehlming majority of his colleagues in the Constabulary.
"It is my hope that this case will send a very clear message to members of the community that Leicestershire Constabulary is committed to rooting out criminal behaviour - wherever it is found - and to bringing those responsible to justice."
