Get with the programme fellas, we have been doing this for ages.
Four drivers have had their cars seized by police in Edinburgh following a crack down on uninsured and unlicensed motorists.
Officers in Lothian and Borders Police made use of tough new legislation for first time last week with the four vehicles lifted within 24 hours.
The cars, which include a Mercedes, could now be turned to scrap.
Drivers caught without a licence face having their cars destroyed if they fail to show a licence within 14 days.
The seizures come under the new Road Traffic Act (Retention and Disposal of Seized Motor Vehicles) Regulations.
Chief Inspector Kenny Buchanan of Lothian and Borders road policing branch said drivers faced hefty fines to recover their vehicles and unless they had the appropriate insurance and other documentation, the cars would not be released, and faced being scrapped.
He said: "The message is clear to drivers, it is going to cost you much more to break the law than it would to equip yourself with the necessary insurance and proper documentation to keep your car on the road.
"The problems caused by people driving without insurance can be devastating, especially to those who are victims of road accidents caused by someone driving illegally.
"We would strongly advise drivers to spare themselves what could be a very expensive and greatly inconvenient process of losing their car."
