Garda found shot dead at Dublin HQ
Thursday, 17 May 2007 22:19 Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a detective who was found shot dead at the Garda Dublin Metropolitan Headquarters this morning.
The detective garda, who was attached to the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Harcourt Square, was on duty last night.
His body was discovered by another detective at around 6.30am this morning.
His wife and family have been informed.
Gardaí are investigating whether or not the 48-year-old's death may have been accidental.
They are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and say the death is being treated as a tragedy.
The Harcourt Square HQ is where the specialist units such as the Bureau of Fraud Investigation and the NBCI are based.
The detective garda was licensed to carry a firearm.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
