The MPS has received the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) report outlining recommendations and lessons to be learned following the fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes.
The terrorist attacks and fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes last July provided the MPS with both unique challenges and unparalleled learning opportunities.
A series of internal reviews were therefore conducted into various operating procedures and practices to identify what could be improved and we will be sharing this work with the IPCC, the Home Office and HM Inspectorate of Constabulary.
The reviews findings have already resulted in improvements being made across a wide range of the activities that make up the MPS response to major incidents such as those that occurred in July 2005.
We therefore welcome the IPCC's recommendations and will be analysing the detail of the report to ascertain whether further changes to improve our response are appropriate.
DAC John Yates who leads on the Met's response to the IPCC inquiry, said:
"The MPS is determined to learn whatever lessons it can from the tragic events of July 2005 and we are grateful to the IPCC for their recommendations."
