The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is to manage an investigation into a fatal road traffic incident in Bedford, which took place yesterday morning (29 August).
At approximately 2am a car being driven by a man in his 40s collided with a house in Addington Close, Bedford, following a pursuit by a police vehicle. No other vehicles were involved.
This incident was referred to the IPCC by Bedfordshire Police and Commissioner David Petch has confirmed the IPCC will manage an investigation, led by Hertfordshire Police and overseen by IPCC Deputy Senior Investigator Colin Dewar.
IPCC Commissioner David Petch said: “This was a tragic incident and our investigation will seek to establish the nature of the police involvement leading up to the collision.
"The pursuit took place in Barkers Lane, Goldington Road and Great Barford Roundabout, and the collision occurred in Addington Close. We are appealing for anybody who saw the collision or any aspect of the pursuit to contact Hertfordshire Police on 01923472388.
"A postmortem will be carried out later today, when the man is expected to be formally identified. HM Coronor has also been informed."
