What are the laws for being armed in the US, can anyone carry a gun at any time?

Depends on the state. Here in Georgia, if you have not been convicted of a crime or committed to a mental instution, you may apply for a concealed weapons permit. There are regulations as to where you can carry, no carry in a Gov. building, where alcohol is consumed, etc, but pretty much everything else goes.

This is what a Georgia permit looks like.

Theyre like the forms we fill out when we get our authorised firearms officer liscense

Thanks Sarge I wondered if the rules had changed. I'm surprised though that the Garda haven't all been armed on duty. But as has been pointed out, that's an issue that depends on need. We're armed on duty but unless we're detectives or motorcycle cops we don't take home - unless we forget of course ipf/bigsmily.gif

We have to sing in and sign out all weapons and ammo every bullet has to be accounted for

I'm sure Sarge will agree that Southern Ireland is not the war torn country people expect it to be when i have been it is a very beautiful and friendly place , and of course they have crime and drugs everyone on here will have. I think a lot of people compare it to NI in the height of the troubles

You get the two sterotypical views:
1: Backward land of leprecauns with no electricity and we drink illegal home made spirits to excess etc etc
2: The war torn country that NI was many years ago and a land infultrated with many many IRA operatives.

Nighter is true im afraid. Our country is often compaired to Great Britian and now i think there is very little difference in the two coutrys anymore.
