Just wondered if you got issued Leg Restraints as personal issue?
WE do in South Wales
Not yet (Met)...i understand that they are imminent !!
Not personal issue but I got mine from LA.
From what I have heard thy are a VERY good piece of kit
Rich I was just thinking you wear big boots and tight trousers now you want leg restraints, I dont think this is the right website for you
LOL True, true (you forgot, I carry a crop)
We don't get them as a personal issue, but there is a set of them in the trunk of every patrol car.
For those of you who are getting them issued, are you carrying them on your duty belt?
We don't yet, as Robbo said, but other forces use them, why can't we? I can think of many situations I have been in which the leg restraints would have made a lot easier to deal with!
They are issued with a Gucci nylon holder to put on the utillity belt (no photo sorry)
I have never seen leg retraints issued officially or otherwise. Any sets in use in An Garda Siochána are unofficial issue or so it would appear to me.
In addition I believe that the Garda that used them would be held personally liable for all costs of any civil court case taken in pursuit of compensation for any injury, real or imaginery. Why would any one in their right mind procure at their own expense an item that could cost them their house or worse still, their job. I can guarantee that any one who was caught stepping over the mark would be handed a canoe and pushed in the general direction of Crud Creek!
Some of the posts I have read lead me to believe that the lily has been gilded..... just a little! Or as we say in this part of the sty, when our imagination has been stetched to capacity, "and then you woke up, with your arms around your mother"!

I'm confused???? What do you mean????
I am not sure which bit confuses you, but I will hazard a guess.
Gilding the Lily is an expression that means " trying to improve on the actual situation / facts ". It is the exact opposite of the unvarnished truth. Imagine trying to paint a real flower to improve its appearance? The result is never as good as the real thing.
Some of the posts i have read fitted this metaphor.
When a person is gilding the lily, usually in a situation involving late nights and alcohol. The persons who are listening (and no longer believe what they are hearing), use the expression "and then you woke up with your arms around your mother". It is meant to be taken metaphorically and not literally.
Often the story would begin "I met this great bird last night ..........a real goer she was"
It was not meant as a criticism, just an observation. War stories and all that. I did not intend to cause confusion. I hope this explains the context.
Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa.
