A man has been charged after a police dog died and an officer was allegedly attacked at a farm in Carmarthenshire.

The 35-year-old was arrested following an incident at a farm on the outskirts of Laugharne on Sunday night.

The man, said to be local, will appear in court later this month accused of attempting to murder a policeman and criminal damage to a police dog.

He is charged with other public order offences and is detained under the provisions of the Mental Health Act.

Dyfed-Powys Police said a full file was being prepared by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Detective Inspector Frank Phillips said: "I can reassure the public that no other person is being sought in connection with this incident.

He added: "There is no on going threat to the public.

"This serious incident is being fully investigated and the officers involved appreciate the emotional responses generated by the tragic loss of an experienced police dog."

Hope the scum gets what he deserves.

Over here I'm pretty sure our dogs and horses are actually considered Police Officers and as such the person would be charged with Murder not criminal damage. I know if you assault a dog or horse it is assault police!!
