| Man who ran bike over PC jailed A man who drove his motorbike over a police officer as she broke up a fight has been jailed. Wayne Hewitt, 36, of Pennington, Hants, had denied deliberately riding over Pc Liz Parsonage outside the Thomas Tripp pub in Lymington in January. Pc Parsonage was badly injured and is still off work seven months later. Hewitt was found guilty of dangerous driving and wounding with intent to cause GBH. He was told he must serve at least four years in prison. Previous offences The judge sentenced Hewitt to an indeterminate jail sentence for public protection and gave him a six-year driving ban. The jury at Southampton Crown Court was earlier shown CCTV footage of the attack on Pc Parsonage. As she tried to arrest a man involved in a fight, Hewitt suddenly rode his motorbike at and over her. Hewitt claimed he was drunk and out of control of his vehicle but the jury decided he had ridden over her deliberately. After the verdict, the jury was told Hewitt had a record of 85 previous offences, including deliberately riding a bicycle at a police officer. |
