A Metropolitan Police Service officer convicted of using racially aggravated insulting words and behaviour has had his appeal dismissed.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission supervised an investigation by MPS into the allegations against PC Mark Tuffey.
Following the dismissal of his appeal at Southwark Crown Court last Friday [13 October], the MPS accepted Mark Tuffey's resignation with immediate effect.
IPCC Commissioner Nicola Williams said: "The dismissal of Mark Tuffey's appeal and his subsequent resignation sends out the clear message that racist behavior in the police service will not be tolerated. Cases such as this help to ensure that the public receives the exceptionally high standards from the police which they rightly expect.
"Decent, hardworking officers around the country will rightly be outraged at Mr Tuffey's despicable behaviour, and I again commend the MPS officers who stepped forward to report his actions."
Mark Tuffey, a former Police Constable, was based at Wimbledon Police Station. On 4 May 2006 at Bow Street Magistrates Court he was found guilty on one count of racially aggravated abusive or threatening words and ordered to pay £400 fine and £400 costs.
