Am I right in thinkng that the RMP's only have powers IN and AROUND military bases?
A mate of mine said that he had seen them walking about in Portsmouth?
Thanks
I think the Government is currently using MP's to assist the Police in some cities to help with disorder problems caused by binge drinkers?
Rich i believe your right but they also have powers over soldiers sailors and airmen even if theyre off base but dont have powers on civvys off MOD property
as the Sarge quite rightly says they have full MP powers anywhere but only over servicemen and when on MOD property they have powers over MoP
on the flip side to that, what powers to civy police have when on MoD property say when they are on a TA weekend ??

Technically full police powers if your a Home office constable as your appointed through England and Wales but in practice any job you had, you would hand over to the service police or MODPLOD depending on what it was.
If it was On MOD property during a TA excursion then I think the jurisdiction would fall under the military police

Does the same apply at airshows then etc? I've seen a lot of D&C plod assisting in policing Naval bases with the MoD etc.

I suppose while the overall responsibility of policing it would full under military police, the local HO force would have full powers there, and as the general public would have access it's probably a good thing.
Similar to BTP, the overall policing of a set area falls under the local force responsibility but BTP has command of a set infrastructure, although both have police powers on each others "turf"
RMP's have been doing joint patrols with Durham Plice in Darlington for quite some time now and in Catterick, RMP and North Yorks Police share the same police station.
On Traffic Cops (repeated this week) when they locked up the taxi driver in Portsmouth, they transported him in a 'Service Police' van.
