| Murder Blues Wed 21 Sep, 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm 60mins Tale of Two Cities. The second programme in this documentary series reveals a rarely-seen side of London. Murder Blues explores the challenging work of Trident, the Metropolitan Police's elite squad that investigates shootings within London's black communities. Kevon Forsythe was a 19-year-old from Kingston, Jamaica, where murders are rife. To escape the crime and make his fortune, he followed the familiar route to the vibrant Afro-Caribbean community of Brixton. Within six months he was shot dead in a doorway. This programme follows the Trident investigation into his killing, blocked by the refusal of witnesses to come forward. Another Trident team have more luck: after a three-year investigation, they arrest Owen Clarke, one of the UK's biggest drugs importers. Trident go to Kingston, Jamaica, to work with local police on the biggest police operation ever, to search for hidden assets among his many houses. But in London the killings suddenly escalate, with many triggered by trivial reasons like an argument over a Playstation game. When the son of a much-loved local leader is killed in a drive-by, Trident launch an emergency operation, culminating in dramatic arrests of renowned gunmen. Gun crime falls again in London |
