I have decided that tomorrow I will telephone recruitment for Hampshire Police and request an application to join as a regular police officer. It's quite a big step and I've been thinking about it for a while now.

I'll update this thread as necessary as I go through the process (and hopefully come out of it as an accepted police constable!)

Does anybody know approximately how long it will take from application > appointment (it doesn't say on the police could you site.)

Good luck with your app. Jules, keep us all up-to-date with your progress!

Well, this really is one of those questions that depends on the force. Some forces such as Wiltshire would have you in before Christmas, whereas the MET might not manage it until Christmas 2007. A really rough estimate (depending on force area and application & vacancy numbers) would be 8-10 months. ipf/tu.gif

And like Orinoco said ... keep us posted!

When I did my training at Ashford back in stone age times they used to call Hampshire, Hampshire Henrys.
I suppose as your a girlie then you'll be known as a Hampshire Henrietta.

Thanks for your support - I have now receoved the application and I hope to have it sent off by the end of the week.

Get it photocopied a couple of times and do a few dry runs with it

Took your advice Al, got a couple of copies and they were indeed used so lucky you told me! ipf/specool.gif

Section 1 was ok - my health is reasonable and I haven't had many days off at all, I'm not in any debts with any loansharks and I haven't been declared bankrupt so I should be ok on this section

Employment should be ok, with my referees not slagging me off too much I hope, section 3 (education) wont be too bad but now it's onto the section I just know I'm going to fail on! Competency Assessments! Ah well no point dwelling on the past now ... Royal Mail are looking after it for me so now I'll just have to wait and see!

I was surprised today when I got a letter in the post saying that my application had been received. I thought that was very good, reassured me that it had not been lost - didn't know they did this - although, maybe, something which doesn't happen in larger forces such as MET or BTP?

I got a phone call:
(in thick country accent) "Hello is this Alan X"
"It is yes"
"Got your application"
"Okay?"
"You forgot your ID"
"I sent my passport"
"Right so bye now"
