Think so, and then there's concessions for military service, 6months for every 1 year served I believe, but looks like no limit on the reserve.

I tell ya, It's funny when Mrs. Jones starts ranting and raving at the student because he looks like the senior man!

35 seems quite low, but then I am comparing it to here where it's not unheard of people to join the regs at 45. I suppose the Garda get their money's worth if this is the case. What's the retirement age over your side?

35 is the age limit to become a regular officer isn't it robotack??

I've known people join in their 40's

Candidates to join the Service must be between 18 and 35 years of age, be in good mental and bodily health and be of good character. Certain minimum standards of education are specified.

It's off the wall stuff!... and looks like there's no age limit either. In the newspaper ad theres a guy saying he's 54 and gonna join. So what about the 1.5 mile run and assault course stuff we had to do?

It's a huge joke!

Well if you think that's bad, as our constables are employed by the local authority the pensionable age is 65 ohmy.gif Currently we have a Sgt and two PC's in their sixty's on full operational duties - Now thats bleeping scarey ipf/omg.gif

Seems very negligent of the authority to let them do this! Unless they are fully fit and given an annual assesment? You would think they would be put on control room duties or something. Problem is, they may feel themselves that they are fine to do the job, and you'll have a tough time telling them they're not (if that's the case)

Zara,

How true you are, two of the three in particular 'just can't be told' Control room, up to a few years ago was an option but on earlies and lates we have civilian support officers that run it and the public enquiries counter. (To add salt to the wound they deleted three constable posts to get the support officers posts ipf/rage.gif ) The authority for the last year have been looking into this situation but as yet have done nothing!!
