

Because of health and safety concerns, extra restrictions have been put in place to protect the few police volunteers that do exist in the country. Now they are no longer permitted to ride in police cars, are not permitted to have any contact with offenders or prisoners, are not permitted to assist with any police type duty such as traffic control, and are not permitted to accompany officers on any regular police work or to remain unaccompanied in a police station

They can however, make the tea, sweep the floors, wash the cop cars, and if they are really careful assist with putting files in the storeroom, (provided the same storeroom isn't used for exibits or weapons)
If I was a volunteer in New Zealand then I would be handing in my notice as soon as I read this article!

I'm just about to check what the current numbers for voluntary officers are ... will be interesting!
