I've just heard about the system where USA cops take their patrol car home with them. Is this a common thing to happen and isn't it a bit dangerous?

Any USA cops post some pics I think your cars are gerate!

Pretty sure they do have their assigned vehicles, maybe one of our American friends could confirm or correct ? ipf/tu.gif

A lot of agencys have take home cars. Never heard of any problems with this. (I am not a cop, I am married to one and have a police car in the driveway right now) smile.gif

Glad to hear it works out for you over in the USA. Here, people do try to advertise their police employment as little as possible, as it wouldn't be unheard of for them to find their house on fire.

I bet the cars are well looked after though if they are taken home, not like most job cars over here!

Hey Commish. Try to firebomb a cops house here can be detrimental to ones health. We are well armed and tend to use our guns. ipf/bigsmily.gif

I take job bikes / cars home from time to time. I and a few others are only allowed to do this because we live in job house's that are within our parks or commons.

With the price of petrol rising, comes in handy sometimes ohmy.gif

Well technically it's not because I kinda live at my place of work and nothing in life is free, I may live in a job house but I have to do 2hrs a day extra than my colleagues who don't live on the job in order to get a subsidised rent. It's the truth gov as god is my witness, I really do do the 2hrs - honest rolleyes.gif

ipf/offtopic.gif but Kitman are you on call 24/7 when your in the grounds? So if something happened in the middle of the night (you're off duty) would you deal with it. I'm trying to picture the way it works, do you have a 24/7 shift rota or is daytime only? And any night incidents or incidents where parks police aren't on shift would be dealt with by the response bobbies from the mps?

Also, this sounds really stupid but do you have Special Constables in parks?

I follow a normal 24/7shift pattern of earlies, lates and a week of nights (nights every 6 weeks) I have 2 sets of PPE one which stays at home and I will only deal with serious incidents off duty requiring immediate intervention such as the other day with an attempt suicide by the lake until either our guys or MPS officers attend. I will not deal with trivial things if I'm off duty, I'll call up our control room for them to task the officers that are on shift. Not such a stupid question about specials, we have what we call 'Reserve constables' and they come to duty to cover big events or shortages on shifts etc in return we pay them something like £8.50 an hour!!!

Commish, prehaps in the restricted area I can go into more details of our service / set up if you or anyone elseis interested?
