i was in Bridgend (South Wales) on Staurday and whilst eating lunch with my parents i saw a Pug 307 in SWP markings. however there were no blue lights on it and the driver was no a police officer but was wearing a stab vest. Are PCSOs getting cars and has anyother force done this?

Some of ours are driving around in Marked blue lighted mini buses.

Quite a few forces are putting thier PCSO's in cars. I thought the idea was for them to provide high visibility foot patrols (or maybe i'm mistaken)

No you are exactly right, and they won't be taking over from police officers either.

Did I just see a pig fly passed my window ipf/rage.gif

So much for high-visibility 'patrols'. I thought the whole point of PCSOs was because Coppers went whizzing round in cars and the public wanted foot patrols. blink.gif

It's frustrating that some PCSO has ended up on a fastrack driving course for a role which shouldn't even need driving (except Bicycles) and I had to wait many years for my course sad.gif

Obp is running a course soon arn't ya dick?

Psssst jon dont expect a discount though wink.gif wink.gif

Most PCSO's in our Force have access to Pedal Cycles and also sponsered cars. They are allowed to drive marked police vehicles once they have undertaken a basic driving assessment.

This is so wrong, why are they allowed to drive marked vehicles?

If i'm correct the car was marked and had heddlu police wording on it but no bluelights

BTW what does a sponserd car look like?

It would be a vehicle with a sponsor blazened all over it, something like "Vehicle sponsored by such and such a radio station" it's a good way to get free advertising if the police are using one.

Commissioner- 05-27-2006
Yea it's a bit like that Ferrari or whatever expensive sports car it was that was done up in MET livery.

I agree. They're not 'Police' so they shouldn't drive them.

They can drive Police cars with blue lights fitted , like standard responce cars. They just arn't allowed to use them. It is all about getting more vehicles on the road. So people think there are LOADS of cops on the street.

In South Wales MOST cars ae marked up: Communications Department, PCSO's, Traffic Wardens, Scenes of Crime Etc... It has caused problems with civillians driving past incidents huh.gif
