Just wondered if your Force had a pedal Cycle Patrol Unit or whether you had Officers who Patrolled on Pedal Cycles?

Merseyside have a few cycles for officers and PCSOs.

Saw one in Liverpool when I went to Police HQ the other week - pretty smart really!

There was a picture on Merseyside's website but I can't find it now! wink.gif

Found one - not the one I was looking for but it'll do rolleyes.gif

Just found this from http://www.thisisbristol.com/

POLICE LEAP INTO ACTION

Officers from Redland police's mountain bike team are being specially trained to leap from their bikes at high speeds to catch criminals. As well as this, they are being taught how to cycle up and down steps, and how to ride at speed through narrow ally ways.

PC Nick Pearce, 44, said: "We were targeting a particular area after a series of robberies in Cotham Gardens last year.

"There was a robbery and the offenders made off on pedal bikes through a footpath, but thanks to our local knowledge we cycled to various points and arrested several of them.

"Without the bikes that would not have been possible."

The other members of the four-strong team based at Redland police station are James Ray, 32, Giles Fletcher, 26, and Andy Fox, 24.

They all attended a training course with the City of London Police, which has two cycling sections.

They are not great at Mc Donalds for a drive in or for that matter a drive by!

Personally I think they are great to interface with Joe Public in an unconfrontational way. They dont leave as much mess as a Mountie or his horse!

The bikes are very clean but some of the riders could do with a good scrub!

Becomming increasingly common in the MET particularly with the Safer Neighbourhood Teams. Mostly used by PCSO's - I know that Tower Hamlet's is particularly keen on the use of bikes.

What about when Toby or Lancer takes a dirty great big dump in the middle of the street to you get off and use your oversized pooper scooper???

Red Hand- 02-12-2006
Why not use oversized Pampers or Huggies? Your horse could wear them on the occasions that they might open the bomb bay without permission of the pilot and create an Accidental / Deliberate / Dishonourable Discharge type Incident. Saves paperwork too! Do you have to use nappy cream on the horse?

This solution would avoid offending any observers. You know the type who write in to the papers and phone chat shows whinging about everything. They usually sign their letters - Disgusted from Dublin or Bewildered from Birmingham. No mess to shovel up and bring home for the parents to put on the garden.

I can think of a few politicians and senior officers here that could lend you a few of their oversized ones for a trial run. If you find that they are too big, I am sure Pampers or Huggies could send you smaller ones!
