Nine alleged football hooligans have been arrested by police during a series of dawn raids in the Lothians.

A team of detectives has spent the past five weeks studying CCTV footage of violence following the Hearts verses Hibs match in the middle of last month.

Tuesday's raids are the first of several planned, with police asking anyone involved to hand themselves in.

Addresses in Howdenhall, Restalrig, Telford, Corstorphine and Tranent in East Lothian were raided at 0500 GMT.

The nine men are all aged between 20 and 39 years old. It is expected all will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

A squad of 12 officers has spent weeks combing through hours and hours of CCTV footage, frame by frame, identifying suspects.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokeswoman said: "This is the first of a number of planned raids.

"If you were involved in the trouble that day in Edinburgh, hand yourself in before we come knocking at your door, or even target you at work."
