A senior police officer has been caught using a mobile phone while driving, a week after tougher penalties were introduced.
Strathclyde Police said Chief Supt Kenny Scott was stopped by officers from his own force while he was off-duty and driving a private car.
He has been fined £60 and has had three points put on his licence.
Fines have recently been doubled and penalty points introduced in an attempt to crack down on offenders.
A police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a 50-year-old man was given a fixed penalty following an alleged road traffic offence on the M74 on Wednesday, 7 March."
She added that "no-one was above the law" and he was treated like any other offender.
