An internal inquiry has been launched after a London police officer lost a briefcase full of imitation bombs.

The fake devices were intended for use in a presentation designed to inform the public about terrorist methods.

A City of London officer is thought to have left the case on a train on 31 October. It has yet to be found.

A spokesman said an internal inquiry was being carried out and that changes had been made to minimise the risk of similar incidents happening again.

"We take incidents of this nature very seriously," he continued.

"We have also carried out an urgent review into how officers handle such material."
