German police have set up a quick reaction task force equipped with 190mph Porsche sportscars to chase drivers taking part in illegal Cannonball Run-style races.

Most German autobahns have no speed limit, but using them for racing is illegal and is a growing problem, particularly among Brits.

The police version of the Porsche 997 Carrera S will be officially unveiled at the Essen motor show on November 25.

It sports a souped-up engine, aerodynamic body kit and sports suspension as well as the standard blue flashing light and green and silver colours of the German police.

In the first operation last month, more than 100 British motorists in high powered sports cars, who were believed to be part of an illegal race were stopped.

They've had them for years. when i went to germany as a kid for a football match they had 911's with roll cages and the drivers wore crash helmets.
