Police have fired a stun gun following reports a man armed with a sword was threatening violence.
Armed police used the weapon on a man at Abertridwr, near Caerphilly, at about 2200 BST on Wednesday after being called to the scene at 1900 BST.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital, Gwent Police said.
He was later released from hospital and was taken to a Gwent Police custody suite.
Stun guns can send out a 50,000 volt electric current, rendering the target incapacitated for five seconds.
The Gwent force introduced the weapons in August 2005.
