Prisoner escapes from Co Down court
Thursday, 17 April 2008 20:04

A prisoner was on the run tonight after escaping from a court in Co Down.

Conall Kearney, 18, was being escorted to the custody suite at Downpatrick Magistrates' Court when he slipped his handcuffs and ran off from his guards, according to the prison service in Northern Ireland.

Mr Kearney had been brought to the court by the PSNI on charges of criminal damage, riotous behaviour and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was handed over to prison service custody after being remanded.

He escaped as he was being escorted by guards from his court hearing to the court custody suite.

The PSNI is now assisting the prison service in an attempt to locate him. The prison service has begun an investigation into the incident.

A spokesman said it was working closely with the court service in relation to the matter.

If they say the cuffs are too tuff - They are !!!!! and that is good, they can't slip them off and run away then!

He's back having Bed and Breakfast at Her Majesty's establishment now. Big problem in this court in that the con has to be led from the dock to the holding rooms via the public gallery and a lot of the local "hoodies" tend to gather to give jip. Anyway valuable lesson learned by the escort staff about applying handcuffs I would think, also have to wonder why he was escorting a con by himself. ipf/whistle.gif
