I think because of the way the stations are positioned we would usually end up with at least one wholetime appliance but its nothing to do with any ruling that you can not have only retained appliances attending incidents!

Just interested to know if there are regs around the country to say no incident manned by entirely RFF's! Im sure there is not one here!

No doubt my view on B & T will provoke some people, but the whole B&T situation is out of control (IMO). You only have to look at how many people have been killed or injured by vehicles responding under B&T's in the last year. (I believe that the Met managed 45 deaths, injured unknown).

You need to balance the speed of getting there to the risks. AS a HATO, it has been drummed into us that we are there to support and make safe, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY prevent further injuries.

All of us need to be part of the solution and not add to the problem.

Yes its frustrating sitting in a queue of traffic, yes you want to do your best to get there as quick as possible to save life, BUT you must not loose site of your own safety and that of those around you not connected with that incident.

I have suffered incredable frustration at getting my patrol up to 70mph on a clear motorway en route to a call, but I'm not allowed to break speed limits.

Blue lights play a very important role and it must not be diluted by issuing them to all and sundry, as it will only lessen the importance that surrounds them.

I'm getting concerned that some people see Blues as the great saviour and almost provide a protective shield, which as we all know they don't

As you look back through this post you will see that I have also said that Blues are not the answer to the RFF's getting through the traffic!

HOWEVER, you have given the example of a HATO's response, which we are all aware are of a supportive role to the Police and NOT as a first response as are the 999 services. These services of course includes RFF's as they respond to exactly the same life threatening incidents as wholetime firefighters.

You go on on this post and others on this forum about the obsession some people seem to have about blue lights, but you come across more as someone who thinks that NO ONE should have them as they cause more death and injury to the roads than they actually help!

You do have a good point, but where you say

I agree that HATO are a support, but RFF's are the emergency services, not a support and need to get to their station asap to be able to get to an incident where lives could possibly be at risk.
