What are the new powers under the RTA 1988 that allows Police Officers to immediately seize vehicles from drivers, if they suspect they are being driven without insurance or without an appropriate driving licence?

Wait...wait...'new' powers from an Act from 1988?

Donkey Walloper- 08-14-2006
Ha ha ha ha missed that one!

Section 59 Police reform Act 2002 allows for some powers of seizure of vehicles being driven in a manner causing alarm, harrassment and distress Dunno if this extends to uninsured cars.

I think untaxed cars are covered by different legislation still.

Untaxed cars would come under revenue law, eg goods being seized at ports for not duty paid etc

The power is under the Serious and organised crime and police act 2005, it relates to no driving licence as well as no insurance, you'll find it here

Fantastic piece of legislation, i've lost count of the vehicles I have seized.
